The Need for Trailer Vision Technology

Of the vast majority of vehicles on the roads in Australia, there was no facility or system in place which alerts the driver, when towing a trailer, of trailer light circuit failure. There are a number of factors which can cause malfunction of the trailer lighting  circuit system and go undetected by the driver.

Identified Problems includes:

Damaged lights and fittings, prone to rust, dirt, water, salt, faulty connections on lights.

  • Globes & globe holders, faulty, damaged, corroded.
  • Electrical wiring faults. Circuit faults.
  • Connections, corrosion in plug / plug pins closing up not making  contact with socket.
  • Disconnection. Trailer Plug come away from car socket.
  • Connector pins loose or out of alignment both vertically and horizontally.
  • Exterior damage to connectors:  prone to dirt, mud, rust, water, salt, damage, vibrations.

Scotch Locks: A Scotch Lock is a wiring clamp which may be used in the wiring harness of a vehicle to join two wires together these can over heat and cause problems if not clamped properly.

Knowing is caring and Vehicle industry representatives have identified benefits associated with the Trailer Vision products:-

  • Increased safety awareness for drivers
  • Increased general road safety
  • Improved safety standards
  • fore filling Australian Design Rules 1300 standards 2000.

6.5.8. TELL-TALE

If a motor vehicle is equipped to draw a trailer, it must be fitted with a special visual operational tell-tale for the direction-indicator lamps on the trailer unless the tell-tale of the drawing vehicle allows the failure of any one of the direction-indicator lamps on the vehicle combination thus formed to be detected.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU’RE TRAILER LIGHTING

CIRCUITS ARE WORKING CORRECTLY????

General adoption of  Trailer Vision Tell Tale Safety Systems, Electrical testing Equipment

and other accessories is making a positive contribution to increasing road safety when

vehicles are towing trailers.

Note: Ensuring that the trailer lights are working is the responsibility of the hauling driver.
